Central Asian Shepherd Dogs are massive-boned and powerfully muscled. Some of them can be sluggish. Their thick skin, with well-developed, sufficiently elastic subcutaneous tissue, often forms folds around the neck, accentuating this feeling. But beware of first impressions, because these are born defenders.Above-average and big, strong and bold, distrustful of strangers, they are undemanding dogs that easily adapt to different climates. As a consequence, they can be widely employed throughout Russia and in the former Soviet republics of Central Asia and surrounding regions, where the climate is often tough.

While its physiognomy is striking, it’s the Central Asian Shepherd Dog’s character that really grabs the interest of dog lovers. They are very active dogs but well balanced and calm at the same time, with a very strong protection instinct, which is expressed by a highly active form of defense.
